KdBG flavor and culture.

When you see Krewe da Bhan Gras, you see our own New Orleans-style tribute to traditional South Asian forms of expression. Explore the sights, sounds and tastes that define us, inspire us and keep us dancing.

Our dishes.

Countries across South Asia have their own unique cuisines and ways of cooking, and our cookbook gathers some of our members’ favorite recipes.

The cookbook is our signature Mardi Gras throw! Try to catch one when you see us parading.

Our throws.

In addition to the exclusive KdBG cookbook, we hand out (and throw) bangles — multi-colored bracelets. The name bangle is derived from the Hindi word “bungri,” meaning glass.

Bangles are typically made of gold, silver, platinum, glass, wood, ferrous metals or plastic. Each color of bangle has traditional significance, but today any color makes a stylish staple piece of jewelry.

Our moves.

Throughout each parade, we perform a series of Bhangra dances — a lively and fun form of dance that originated with Punjabi farmers.

We practice twice a week for the two to three months leading up to Mardi Gras. Honoring our ancestry takes work!

Our jams.

Music is a big part of what makes South Asian cultures so festive and our krewe’s Mardi Gras presence so memorable.

This is the KdBG playlist, a collection of songs submitted by our members that remind us of our heritage or simply make us dance. Hit play!
