Honoring where we’re from.
Celebrating where we’re at.
Our food brings the spice. Our garb is bold and bright. Our music always makes hips shake (just watch how we do it). As a group, we’re beautifully diverse, but we share a pride that runs deep.
Our history is also complex, with so much to honor and observe...and a lot to address and resolve. We embrace it all.
Sound like your favorite city? Ours too.
We honor the many South Asian countries we come from.
We celebrate New Orleans, where we belong.
Our Mission
The krewe overview.
Founded in 2022, Krewe da Bhan Gras exists to…
Unite members of New Orleans’ South Asian diaspora and ignite a powerful sense of belonging, community and pride.
Celebrate their many nationalities, religions, diverse experiences, gender identities and sexual orientations.
Contribute to the wildly festive, inclusive spirit of Mardi Gras and of New Orleans. Or as we say, add our masala to the mix.
Introduce our unique customs and culture to all who see us, and to inform them of the important work of decolonization.
Our History
How KdBG got rolling.
Krewe da Bhan Gras was started in 2022 by Monica Dhand and Anjali Niyogi (two New Orleans doctors, dance enthusiasts and close friends) as the first Krewe to represent their South Asian heritage in Mardi Gras.
Our founders and their friends have long been committed to community and to social justice, themes that shape our culture and inspire our focus on advocacy, education, inclusivity and joy.
